I will not be silenced.
I will not stand idly by while Steve Bannon sticks his Nazi hand up Donald Trump’s ass and puppeteers that nylon-haired idiot into policies and actions that define immorality, anti-Americanism, and full-on Fascism.
I will not suffer gladly a Congress and an Administration that sees no problem with this.
I will not let the howling mob of the ignorant tell me that this isn’t happening or that it is somehow praiseworthy.
I will not sit complacently in some dark room being spoon-fed “alternative facts” by people too stupid to know or too corrupt to care that the alternative to facts is lies.
I will not accept the systematic dismantling of the Constitution by authoritarian dictators and extremist enablers.
I will not countenance the betrayal of everything this country stands for, of everything we have achieved as a nation, of everything the Founders created and their successors built upon and my ancestors worked to see to fruition by cowards too scared of their own shadows and too convinced of their own righteousness to respect those achievements or the people who brought them into being.
I will not be moved by false pretenses and accusations or by the moth-eaten excuses offered by this travesty of a government to defend the indefensible.
I will not be concern-trolled by people who are “tired of politics” and want me to stop.
I will not be fooled by accomplices who want me to give Fascism a chance, nor will I treat such nonsense with anything other than the dripping contempt it deserves.
I will fight back in every way I can.
I will keep the flame of American values alive against all threats, internal or external.
I will defend the Constitution of the United States even when those who have sworn oaths to do so refuse to honor them.
I will act.
I will speak.
I will be heard.
I am an American. These colors do not run.
Here I stand. I can do no other.
"Here I stand. I can do no other."
ReplyDeleteWell, I am (among many) certainly with you; however, while standing has its purpose, I have decided that for me, action is more satisfying.
Indivisible. A concept, and a plan. If a group has not already been formed near you (you can search by zip code), you can form your own. Download the Guide:

"I will act.
I will speak.
I willbe heard.
I am an American."
Here is where I draw the line!
… I Triple-Dog-Dare you …
Lucy
Action is definitely called for. I've downloaded that guide before, though I haven't joined any group yet.
ReplyDeleteI've protested. I've donated. My Senator hates me already. My Representative is part of the problem and has essentially walled himself off from anyone not on his side.
I take your dare, and act upon it.
Glad to have you on my side.
Serious Inquiry:
ReplyDeleteIs there another side to be ON?
Logical minds want to know ...
Lucy
There are always other sides.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that the other side is morally bankrupt, criminally heartless, and clearly headed down the path of actual Fascism (a coherent ideology that means more than "stuff I do not like," which most Americans are surprised to find out), is just extra these days.
Or did you mean "Is there another side that a responsible American citizen could be on?"
In that case, no.
We'll keep to our side, and let the other side beware.
You know, of course, that when the purge comes, we're going to so be standing against a wall somewhere.
ReplyDeleteGood to know I'll be in good company.
Lucy
We will, or they will.
ReplyDeleteIf it's us, we'll go down together.
See you at the wall. Although I think I get priority for the bullet: atheist, socialist*, immigrant...
ReplyDelete{*for US values of socialist anyway}
The only way is forward when your back's against the wall.
ReplyDeleteFirst they came for the people they thought would be easy targets, and we said, "Not today, motherfucker."
